Yakuza Kiwami 2 Launching In The West This August

Kiwami 2

SEGA have announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2, the remake of the PS2 original Yakuza 2, will be launching on August 28th 2018 in the US, so expect it to launch on the 31st in Europe.

Kiwami 2 has already been available since December in Japan, so the 8/9 month localisation turn around is an improvement over the first Kiwami game taking over 18 months to be brought to the West. Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait that long for the Fist of the North Star game.

Kiwami 2 tackles the story of the second game in the series, with Kiryu returning to Kamurocho to deal with the Omi Alliance, which puts him in the crosshairs of the chairman’s son, Ryuji Goda. Similar to Kiwami 1, this version will include gameplay features from more recent games, including the gameplay engine from the upcoming Yakuza 6, along with its clan creator mode.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 will also include a bonus campaign called “The Truth of Goro Majima”, which is set between Yakuza 1 and 2 and deals with Majima leaving the Tojo Clan to form his own legitimate business. Considering the character it involves, we should expect a few curb stomping appointments along the way.

Kiwami 2 will be launching exactly a year after the first Kiwami game, and they’ve been a big success both in Japan and in the West, so perhaps we’ll see the third game in 2019. Time will tell.
