WWE 2K has confirmed that WWE 2K24’s 2K Showcase mode will focus on the illustrious history of WrestleMania. Starting all the way back in the mid-80s, WrestleMania has become a global phenomenon which garners major media attention on a yearly basis. With WWE celebrating its 40th annual spectacle, it makes total sense for 2K to put the spotlight on the many, many amazing matches and moments throughout its four decade span.
Players will have the chance to take on the role of the victors in each WrestleMania’s chosen match. Obviously, not all WrestleMania matches will be replayable due to certain wrestlers no longer being contracted to WWE, but it will be a great tour through some of Mania’s most touted matches.
In previous years, 2K have recreated career moments from the likes of John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Daniel Bryan (now Bryan Danielson). Meshing both the traditional wrestling gameplay and a cinematic recreation of the real match highlights, 2K Showcase has been a highlight of each year’s instalment and one of the most successful features of each game.
So far, WWE 2K have confirmed the following bouts to be included as part of this year’s Showcase mode:
– Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat w/ George “The Animal” Steele vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth – WrestleMania 3
– Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan – WrestleMania 3
– “Ravishing” Rick Rude w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan vs. Ultimate Warrior – WrestleMania 5
– Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper – WrestleMania 7
– Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania 10
– “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs Bret “Hitman” Hart – WrestleMania 13
– “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Rock – WrestleMania X-7
– Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle – WrestleMania 20
– The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania 25
– Seth Rollins vs Randy Orton – WrestleMania 31
– Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair – WrestleMania 35
– “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena in a Firefly Funhouse match – WrestleMania 36
– “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens – WrestleMania 38
– Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair – WrestleMania 39;
– Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes – WrestleMania 39;
– Bianca Belair vs. Asuka – WrestleMania 39;
– Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns – WrestleMania 39
With so many years of wrestling history to dive into, I’m sure we’ll have a huge list of classic matches to sink our teeth into. I for one look forward to seeing the full list as it is revealed in the coming month.
Having seen a few attires already confirmed for the 40 years of WrestleMania edition, including the likes of Randy Savage’s WrestleMania 7 attire, Charlotte Flair’s WrestleMania 33 gear and Rey Mysterio’s WrestleMania 22 getup, it’s likely that we’ll see matches featuring those particular stars from those events. Expect your highlight-reel fodder matches: Cena/Rock, Michaels/Hart and maybe even some unexpected show-stealers that haven’t been featured on a 2K showcase before.
What this does of course mean is that this year’s base game will be full of WrestleMania arenas from the past as well as plenty of fly-attires for each of the legendary superstars.
It’s likely that 2K will drop a full list of the showcase matches in due time. We will update this list with the confirmed matches as and when they are revealed.
