World War Z 2 Slips Off Paramount’s Release Schedule

World War Z

If you wanted to watch Brad Pitt attach more magazines to his arms and gratuitously savour cans of Pepsi, we have some bad news: World War Z 2 looks like it’s in trouble.

Barely anything is known about the follow-up to the polarising adaptation of Max Brooks’ cult classic book with its directors being the only real source of news. J.A. Bayona was originally slated to take charge, but ending up leaving to work on the Jurassic World sequel instead. It’s long been rumoured that David Fincher will surprise everyone by teaming up with Brad Pitt to direct his first sequel since Alien 3, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

With an unrealistic release date of June 9, 2017 to hit, it should be no surprise that it’s now been removed from Paramount’s slate. It isn’t scheduled to hit cinemas at all, and with no clear news to go off, it doesn’t look as if it might happen, at least for another couple of year.

Most successful zombie movie ever released or not, the original World War Z was beset by production issues and was passed around more times than a severed limb among a group of the undead. It went over budget, had gun controversies, and even had to bring in Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard to salvage its first act.

It doesn’t help that it had almost nothing to do with the book it was based on, either.
