Oppenheimer

While most of us know what a nuclear bomb is, not as many people know about the primary architect behind the most destructive force humanity has ever created. Oppenheimer is more than just the latest blockbuster from Christopher Nolan, one of the few directors still making non-superhero epics. It’s going to be for many a definitive portrait of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the most controversial geniuses of his or arguably any other day, but where can you watch Oppenheimer online?

Heavily promoted and widely discussed months before its release, you’ll finally get to see Oppenheimer for yourself when it opens in theaters on July 21st, 2023 opposite Barbie. While the movie is very clearly designed to be seen on the largest possible screen, anyone who actually loves film will tell you to just see the movie in any way that you can, including VOD, physical media, and on hopefully a streaming service you already have. Let’s see when all of those options can be expected to drop.

A movie of the magnitude of Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer with a sprawling cast of major names, will be in theaters for approximately 45 days. This means that you should be able to rent or buy Oppenheimer digitally around the first week of September. A physical media copy has not been confirmed, but Oppenheimer will most likely come to Blu-ray and DVD sometime in early September.

Oppenheimer is being released by Universal. This means that the movie is being released by Comcast, which owns, among other things, Universal Pictures and NBC. In other words, it stands to reason that you will be able to stream Oppenheimer on Peacock at some point after the theatrical and VOD/physical media window.

When will you be able to stream Oppenheimer on Peacock? We can’t say exactly just yet, but you can assume it won’t be too long after the movie has passed through the more lucrative channels. Our guess is that Oppenheimer will be streaming on Peacock no later than the end of October. By the end of 2023 at the very, very latest.

About Oppenheimer

Described as an “epic biographical thriller film”, it’s almost a certainty that Oppenheimer is going to be one of the biggest releases of the year.

Early reviews have been extremely positive, and we are after all talking about a new movie from one of the few directors truly working in the range of epic cinematic storytelling. Expect this biographical drama about J. Robert Oppenheimer to be equal parts well-acted and thrillingly, vividly told through powerful visuals and strong writing (director Christopher Nolan also wrote the screenplay).

Oppenheimer will focus on its subject at the height of World War 2, when desperation compelled the American forces to seek out extraordinary and horrific ways of ensuring victory against the Nazis. Is the story of the first atomic bomb more complicated than that? Absolutely, and it seems likely that because of Nolan’s track record for detail and expansive atmosphere, we will get a comprehensive look at what happens when a single human being is given the task of becoming death itself.
