Where To Watch Danger 5

It's the swinging Second World War - and a team of international secret agents have their sights set on killing Hitler.

The criminally little-known Danger 5 comes off something like a live-action Thunderbirds (or Thunderbirds’s bawdier successor Team America), with a crack team of plucky young go-getters living in an art deco secret base being sent off on exciting missions. The difference is that it’s set in World War 2, when there can only be one mission – kill Hitler. Here’s where to watch Danger 5 in the UK and US.

Danger 5 Synopsis

“And of course, as always, kill Hitler.”

Danger 5 has two seasons. It makes up for its comparative lack of puppets by being even less grounded in realism. In fact, it ends up more cartoony than Thunderbirds ever was, battling pulp-inspired Nazis whose armies are about fifty percent attractive women, and whose evil plans include a plot to steal the Statue of Liberty. And while it’s ostensibly set in the Second World War, the costumes, deliberately unconvincing backdrops, and ethos to drinking on the job all point towards the classic television of the 1960s. The overall tone is probably summed up best by the second season, which sees them fighting the Nazis again, only this time in the 1980s.

As Nazi-fighters, the main team are a group of Allied all-stars: a Brit, an American, a Russian, a Frenchman, and, wildcard, an Australian (note: the show is Australian) – and their boss has the head of an eagle. What’s really remarkable about the show is that, despite starting on such silly ground, it manages to ratchet up the ridiculousness with each passing episode. The prime exemplar is how their boss calls for quiet in the briefings. It starts with merely telling people to be quiet, and before you know it he’s firing a shotgun into the ceiling. Naturally, the Danger 5 gang themselves take all this in their stride.
