Watch Christopher Eccleston Reprise His Role As The Ninth Doctor

Although he has been notoriously reluctant to return to his role as the Ninth Doctor since the first season of the BBC’s Doctor Who revival ended back in 2005, Christopher Eccleston has finally played the Time Lord once again in a special video recorded for the wedding of two lifelong fans.

In the video, which can be viewed below, Eccleston can be heard lamenting how, despite saving the world countless times, he was not invited to the wedding. Although it’s been more than a decade since he officially left the show, fans will be glad to see that he still gets the signature Northern accent down to a pat.

Eccleston recorded the video for the wedding of Blaine Coughlan and Liam Millar, both of whom are longtime Doctor Who fans. Humorously, the happy couple decided that the long-running science fiction franchise would not be a part of their wedding, although Blaine’s best man contacted the agents of both Eccleston and former showrunner Russell T Davies, and convinced them both to record messages for the special event.

Because he famously declined to return in the feature-length Day of the Doctor episode, this could very well be the last ever time Eccleston plays the Ninth Doctor, so fans should make the most of it. The BAFTA-nominated actor recently appeared alongside Anthony Hopkins in this year’s King Lear TV movie, and will next be seen in the wartime drama Where Hands Touch, which will open in limited release on September 14.
