WarGames Confirmed To Return At NXT Takeover: Houston

WarGames

The brainchild of the late Dusty Rhodes is making its long awaited return at NXT Takeover: Houston.

A match concept which originated in the depths of WCW has been a gimmick that many have been expecting to make a comeback for several years now, dating back to the rivalry between The Shield and Evolution. But finally, three teams of three are going to be stepping up their gimmick game and facing off in two caged rings at the upcoming Takeover special.

It was confirmed at last night’s NXT TV tapings that the current Tag champs SAnitY will be defending against not only The Undisputed Era but also The Authors of Pain (feat. Roderick Strong). Without spoiling too much for you, this match is going to be something else and will most likely close and steal the show.

The last time WarGames was televised was at Slamboree 2000 under the tutelage of Vince Russo, pitting Sting, Booker T, Goldberg and KroniK against Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and The Harris Brothers. Needless to say it was a bit of a mess and effectively killed the concept that had been such a hit for WCW. Hopefully under a new brand, WarGames will return to be a regular gimmick.

For those concerned, Cody Rhodes has given approval.
