Unearthed Halo 2 Cinematic Released Online

A deleted scene from Microsoft's classic shooter finally sees the light of day.

Halo 2

A full fifteen years after the release of Halo 2, developer and Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has revealed a never before seen cinematic which was cut from the game.

Although he left Bungie in 2012, Lehto stumbled across the cinematic on an old hard drive in his attic, and while it’s clearly in an unfinished state, you can view it in the embedded tweet below. You’ll also have to excuse the terrible voice acting, as they were clearly planning to re-record the dialogue with professional actors at a later point.

This unearthed cinematic is actually an alternate version of a cutscene which was included in the final game, in which characters travelling in a troop carrier encounter a Halo Array, a gigantic cosmic super weapon from the Halo universe. Although they both clearly use the same script, the newly uncovered version features entirely new footage and shot composition, making it seem different and familiar at the same time.

If you spent countless hours playing Halo 2 back in the day, watching this newly discovered cutscene will probably ignite feelings of nostalgia, so we’re glad it finally saw the light of day. And even though it’s only in a very rough state, we are thankful to Lehto for sharing this piece of video game history.
