True Detective Season 3 Trailer Released

true detective Mahershala Ali

HBO’s True Detective has finally released a sneak peek at the upcoming third season set to premiere in January 2019, and fans are ecstatic. Well, they are ecstatic because after a questionable second season, the cast involved in season 3 are giving fans high hopes for what the show’s third season will bring. Earlier this week, a trailer was released centered on Mahershala Ali’s character, who is taking the mantle of lead actor this season.

True Detective is known for its gruesome murder mysteries and while season 1 was absolutely incredible, fans were let down by the story of season 2. However, season 3 brings with it allure, intrigue, and with the backdrop of the Ozarks, we know it’s going to get interesting.

Based on the trailer released, there seems to be hints of a kidnapping that has occured while those affected come to terms with what has happened. During the trailer, we see flashing images of Ali’s character going back and forth between a younger and elderly version of him, so it’s safe to assume the story will be dealing with ghosts from his past.

We were left with many clues hinting what season 3 will be about, but one thing’s for sure, it will all go down when the season 3 premieres in January 2019. It’s hard to believe four years will have passed since season 2, making it one of the longest gaps between seasons in history. Season 3 will have a total of 8 episodes with series creator, Nic Pizzolatto, writing for all of them.

As far as what we know about the story, True Detective season 3 is set in the Ozarks and will cover three decades in terms of time. The case of the season centers on the kidnapping of two children with Ali’s character, Wayne Hays, leading the investigation. The trailer also gave us a look at some of the other characters that will be a part of this season’s story, and you can take a peek below to learn more about them and remember to mark your calendars for the return of True Detective in January 2019 on HBO!

The season 3 cast includes (as taken from Vox):

Carmen Ejogo: Amelia Reardon – a schoolteacher connected to the missing children and based on trailer, potentially romantically involved with Ali’s character, Wayne.
Deborah Ayorinde: Becca Hays – Wayne’s daughter.
Jodi Balfour: Lori – love interest for Stephen Dorff’s character, Roland.
Lonnie Chavis & Ray Fisher: Wayne’s son (in childhood and adulthood respectively).

Mamie Gummer: Lucy Purcell – mother of two at the center of the crime.
Josh Hopkins: Jim Dobkins – private attorney from Arkansas who will be deposing state police detectives in an investigation.

Along with the above, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, Rhys Wakefield, Sarah Gadon, Emily Nelson, Brandon Flynn, and Michael Graziadei are also set to appear in season 3, but their characters have not yet been revealed.
