Is Toxic Commando Coming To Steam?

Humanity’s attempt to use the Earth’s core as a resource fails miserably and causes a worldwide crisis. No, this isn’t Final Fantasy VII; this is Saber Interactive’s latest zombie shooter: Toxic Commando, or John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando to give it its full name. The publisher, Focus Entertainment, has already revealed that Toxic Commando is coming to PC. But on which store? Is Toxic Commando coming to Steam?

Toxic Commando will not be arriving at Steam on launch. Instead, it will be available to PC players through the Epic Games Store as a timed exclusive. Steam isn’t the only online store being excluded; other stores, like GOG, won’t have Toxic Commando on launch either.

If you’re a Steam purist, Toxic Commando could come to Steam someday. There hasn’t been an official date for when Toxic Commando’s exclusivity with Epic Games ends though. Unconfirmed rumors say the game will arrive on Steam a year after release as that’s how long most exclusivity deals last for, so you probably won’t be seeing it on Steam until at least 2025.

About Toxic Commando

The plot for Toxic Commando is as wacky and wild as they come. As humanity was exploring a method to use the Earth’s core as a power source, catastrophe ensued. They accidentally awakened a being known as the Sludge God. This eldritch horror is capable of turning people into the undead.

To contain the horde, the person behind it all decides to hire mercenaries. Unfortunately, his budget doesn’t allow him to buy top-of-the-line mercenaries. Instead, he hires a rag-tag group known as the Toxic Commandos.

You play as a Toxic Commando and fight hordes of undead monsters by yourself or with a team of other players. The game uses a lot of elements from other famous zombie shooters. It has the massive hordes of World War Z combined with the variety of weapons and special zombies of Left 4 Dead. You can even ride vehicles to mow down the undead.

Toxic Commando is being developed by Saber Interactive, the same company that brought you another mass zombie shooter: World War Z. Saber Interactive also co-developed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition and the Halo series.

Working alongside Saber Interactive is famous American filmmaker John Carpenter. He’s well known for making horror films and has already had a hand in a couple of horror games. He narrated F.E.A.R. 3 and some of his films, like The Thing and Halloween, are said to have inspired Dead Space 3.

Toxic Commando is coming out in 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Saber Interactive hasn’t announced a specific month and day yet.
