THQ Nordic Purchases Koch Media For €121 Million

Saints Row 4

The gaming industry is a funny old thing, and today’s big story proves that. It was announced that THQ Nordic, formerly known as Nordic Games before they purchased the THQ license in 2013 then changed their name in 2016, have now purchasing Koch Media, who own the rights to former THQ titles such as Saints Row and the Metro series. Things have finally come full circle.

THQ Nordic have said that the deal cost 121 million euro, which doesn’t seem like a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. Of course, this could be due to the recent commercial failures of Deep Silver, one of Koch’s subsidiaries. Homefront and Agents of Mayhem failed to set the world on fire, with AoM causing developer Volition to lay off around 30 employees.

Fortunately, no such job loss is to be expected during this acquisition, as THQ Nordic have said that there are currently no plans to restructure Deep Silver, and that Koch Media will continue to exist as its own thing underneath the THQ Nordic umbrella. In a press release, THQ Nordic said the following:

“Following less successful launches in recent years with substantial write-offs in the business area (primarily Agents of Mayhem and Homefront), Koch Media has made significant organisational changes in its management, internal steering and control, technology, as well as its selection process for development of IPs. With the competence THQ Nordic possesses on management level, Koch Media will be better positioned to deliver the full potential of its development projects in the future.”
