Fans who opened up MGS V on Friday to play some more were surprised with a new cutscene: All nuclear weapons have been disarmed. However, this isn’t the case, with Steam still having several thousand armed nukes and the other platforms still having a few hundred. We reported that fans had asked Konami about the who debacle, who said they were looking into it.
However, we now have full confirmation that it wasn’t planned. There are several theories as to why it could have happened, although Konami reportedly hasn’t found the cause yet.
Here’s Konami’s official statement:
The nuclear disarmament event was triggered in the Steam version of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN on Feb 2nd at approximately 12:00 GMT. We are still investigating, but can confirm that the event was triggered while the nuke count hadn’t reached zero. (1/3)

We will share more information as soon as possible, but you can play the game normally and other platforms have not been affected. (2/3)

We’ll keep you updated on the situation as it unfolds, but for now, it would be a good idea to check out the cutscene in-game while you still can.
If you’re on PS4, you didn’t have these cutscenes unlocked. You do, however, probably have PS+, meaning you might want to pick up January’s free games while you still can. Or if you’re more of an offline person, you’ll probably be intrigued by Rambo: The Boardgame.
