20th Century Fox just released the official trailer for The New Mutants, about 3 years after the initial teaser trailer release in 2017. The first words in the trailer are “What’s the last thing you remember?”, which is fairly apt given the immense time lapse since the first one. The New Mutants had an original release date of April 13, 2018, before the date got pushed back to February 22, 2019. After the Disney-Fox merger, the date was moved again, this time to August 2, 2019, and now it has a April 3, 2020 release date.

The movie’s release date seems more concrete this time around, and with this official trailer release, it looks like we will finally get to see The New Mutants in theatres this year. Director Josh Boone confirmed recently via social media that the movie is the original version of the one he shot, so we will get to see his vision on screen.

Boone previously directed The Fault in our Stars, a movie about teenagers having to deal with life-threatening illnesses, and the pathos incurred when young people have to deal with death before they have had a chance to experience life. The New Mutants, a coming-of-age superhero horror film, would fall perfectly within his wheelhouse and the themes he is used to dealing with.

Moreover we have actors like Anya Taylor-Joy and Charlie Heaton on board, with both actors having worked on fantastic horror projects before, The Witch and Stranger Things respectively, so the horror element of the film seems promising. Let’s hope that 2020 brings better tidings for The New Mutants.
