The Last Remnant Remaster Gets A Graphical Comparison Trailer

The Last Remnant Remastered

Shortly after Square Enix announced that they were working on a PS4 remaster of their fantasy RPG The Last Remnant, the publisher has released a new video comparing the graphics of the remaster to those of the original 2008 version, and as you can see, there’s a noticeable improvement.

However, Game Reactor have pointed out that there are still some issues with the framerate, so hopefully Square can get those fixed before it releases on December 6, 2018.

The Last Remnant’s story is suitably epic for a Japanese RPG, with a teenage warrior named Rush Sykes setting out across a war-torn land to rescue his kidnapped sister. It was one of the few seventh generation video games to have been on two discs, so you won’t be reaching the end in a hurry.

A unique aspect of The Last Remnant was that it was one of the only titles published by Square to have received a Mature rating from the ESRB before their purchase of Eidos Interactive in 2009. It was also pretty unusual for a game developed in Japan to have been released on the Xbox 360 and not on the PS3, as Xbox systems sell in notoriously low quantities across the country.

Whereas the 360 version was built using Unreal Engine 3, the remaster will run onUnreal Engine 4, which allows for the visual upgrade. The remaster was announced shortly after the game was delisted from digital storefronts, so unless you can get your hands on a secondhand copy, you’ll only be able to play The Last Remnant on PS4. In any case, keep an eye on Square’s website for official updates.
