The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 – Everything You Need To Know

the handmaid's tale hulu

The Handmaid’s Tale was a breakout hit for Hulu after it brought Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel to life. After its debut, the show went on to win several awards, including a well-deserved Outstanding Drama Series Emmy. Today, it has five successful seasons under its belt, with a sixth season on its way to continue it.

However, it was also announced that Season 6 will be the highly acclaimed drama’s final outing. So, as much as you love its tale, it’s nearly time to say goodbye to the show. To prepare you for the finale, here’s everything you need to know about The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6.

When Is The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 Coming Out?

Unfortunately, The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 has no official release date. Initially, filming was set to begin in August 2023, but the production was halted due to the Actors’ strike. Luckily, the Screen Actors Guild has recently reached an agreement with the AMPTP, ending the strike once and for all.

Since filming can finally resume, the show could meet its planned release window. In the 2022 New Year’s Eve Special of the Graham Norton Show, Madeline Brewer, who plays Janine, mentioned that the final season could come out sometime around 2024. Even if the series was delayed, The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 could be released in late 2024 at the absolute earliest.

On the other hand, a spin-off is also in the works called The Testaments, which will be based on Margaret Atwood’s sequel novel of the same name. Not only that, the showrunner for The Handmaid’s Tale, Bruce Miller, decided to leave the final season to focus on the spin-off show. He’ll be replaced by executive producers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang for the sixth season.

What Is The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 About?

While the plot hasn’t been officially revealed, The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 6 will likely pick up on the previous season’s cliffhanger ending. In Season 5’s finale, June and Serena unexpectedly meet on a train towards Hawaii. Considering their dynamic, it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll unite to take down Gilead in the next season.

Furthermore, we’ll also see the aftermath of Luke’s arrest in the previous season. After he handed himself in, his future is now uncertain as he faces prison time in Canada. Will he be able to escape and reunite with June? We’ll have to wait to find out.
