The First Terminator: Dark Fate Trailer Has Us Feeling More Meh Than Yay

Only Sarah Connor can save us all

It’s here folks. After much teasing from Tim Miller and crew, the official trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate has finally been released.

While the trailer is competent, I don’t find myself too blown away. The song choice is apt, but feels a tad draggy and slow? A bit too much CGI in the fight scenes, and how is it that we have years separating this movie from the original trilogy and the special effects don’t appear much better? The comment section feels mixed as well, with some expressing their excitement and others comparing the trailer quality to Terminator Genisys. I wouldn’t go that far, because the trailer for Genisys was truly awful. However, it is apparent that a lot of fans are not convinced that the franchise needs another addition.

I’m loving the strong woman narrative, especially Linda Hamilton continuing to kick ass as Sarah Connor. And of course Arnie showing up for a mere second was quite the trip. It does make me wonder if the excitement some fans feel is fueled by nostalgia, because a brand new movie with a trailer like that wouldn’t entice me enough to visit the cinema.

The movie is throwing us a bit of a curve-ball with Mackenzie Davis’ character being human yet having some A.I attributes. Hopefully the movie is better than the trailer suggests. Fingers crossed that James Cameron’s return to the franchise as a producer breeds quality and substance – not a mere name drop.

Terminator: Dark Fate arrives in cinemas November 1st, 2019.
