The Big Bang Theory Ending With Season 12

That sound you’re hearing is the combined sigh of relief of hundreds of TV viewers everywhere, because The Big Bang Theory, which has been a blight on the small screen since 2007, is finally coming to an end. As someone who is frequently compared to Sheldon Cooper, I cannot tell you how much joy this news brings me.

A joint statement issued by Warner Bros. Television, CBS, and Chuck Lorre Productions said the following:

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

If you include the upcoming twelfth season, The Big Bang Theory would have run for a total of 279 episodes, which is far more than most shows can even hope to achieve, so kudos to it for that. The cast of the series have also received huge paychecks over the years, with leads Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and Kaley Cuoco being paid an incredible $1 million per episode since 2014. Despite the fact that it’s received a fair number of criticisms (just look at what a nightmare it becomes without a laughter track), it has managed to pick up a fair number of accolades, with Parsons even winning the Golden Globe for the Best Actor – Musical or Comedy category in 2011.

Season twelve will begin airing on CBS on September 24, and will end in May of next year. And even after its cancellation, the hit comedy will still continue to rake in the cash through syndication and home video sales, so it’s still going to be a big moneymaker for Warner Bros. And whilst the principal series is ending, the prequel spinoff, Young Sheldon, has been renewed for a second season, so if you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory, you don’t need to go and cry in a corner just yet.
