Been wanting to play Tales of the Shire on the go, but with better performance? Good news, because Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 25, 2026.
The life sim is already available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X & S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Players who own the game on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to access the Switch 2 version through a free Upgrade Pack at no additional cost.
Developed by Wētā Workshop, the game is set in the Shire region of Middle-earth (if you can believe it) and centres on daily life as a Hobbit. Players can customise and decorate their Hobbit Hole, prepare meals, garden, fish, and forage for ingredients. The game also features trading with local townsfolk and building relationships within the village of Bywater.
Progression is structured around completing narrative “Tales,” though players are free to explore and engage with activities at their own pace, kinda like Animal Crossing. It’s no The Third Age, but it seems like a fairly solid LOTR game, despite some shortcomings. Watch the trailer just below these words.
