Sony Pictures just released the official trailer for Anyone But You, an R-rated rom-com starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.
In the trailer, the pair decide to pretend to be a couple to get through a destination wedding in Australia. Ben (Powell) is still into his ex, while Bea’s former fiancé Jonathan (Darren Barnet) has shown up for her sister’s wedding. Her parents are trying to get them back together, and to prevent that, she convinces Ben to be in a pretend relationship with her until the wedding’s over. The problem is, can they stop their bickering long enough to convince everyone they’re together? It’s the classic enemies to lovers trope, and while rom-coms are predictable by nature, there’s still enough interest here as to how the movie will play out.
With so many rom-coms being released on streaming platforms, it’s great to have a rom-com head to the cinema, especially an R-rated one. Both Sweeney and Powell are good looking, charismatic actors, which is basically what you need for a rom-com to succeed. Powell previously starred in a rom-com called Set It Up with Zoey Deutch, which is a fantastic movie, so we know he’ll do a good job. Sweeney has such diversity in a filmography. She’s Spider-Woman in Madame Web, and had a complex, dramatic role in the movie Reality.
Anyone But You is slated to release on December 22, 2023.
