"Her web connects them all."

Sony Pictures has just released the official trailer for Madame Web, and it looks kind of promising? In the trailer, Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) is a paramedic who develops clairvoyant powers. It feels kind of like Final Destination, where she sees the bad stuff happen and then has a chance to change the outcome. We get a glimpse of Sydney Sweeney in full costume as Spider-Woman, which is also the first live-action debut of the character.

Through her visions, Cassandra realises there’s a connection between her and three other women, Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor), Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced) and Julia Carpenter (Sweeney). They will have to deal with a Spider-Man-like villain Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), who is out to kill all of them because of who they become in the future. Considering all the Sony live-action films post MCU have been focused on characters tangentially related to Spider-Man, like Venom and Morbius, it’s great to have a film focused on Spider people.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson (she helmed the Jessica Jones TV series), the film also features Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps and Zosia Mamet.

Madame Web will be released in theatres February 14, 2024. What a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
