Super Mario Run Speeding onto iOS

Following the gigantic success of Pokémon Go, Nintendo have announced that their very own mascot will be next to get the mobile treatment.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto appeared at Apple’s iPhone 7 media briefing today to announce Super Mario Run, which will be heading to the iOS in December. As its name suggests, the game will be an endless runner starring everyone’s favorite dungarees-clad plumber. In addition to nonstop running, he’ll also have to jump and dodge to avoid enemies and reach hidden items. Watch the announcement for yourself below.

Unlike Pokémon Go, Super Mario Run will come with a fixed price and will supposedly feature no microtransactions (yeah, right). Not that it will need them, with Mario being the bestselling video game series of all time (over 500 million Mario games have been sold to date). Not to mention the fact that the similarly-themed iOS title Sonic Dash was downloaded over 100 million times, so the success of Super Mario Run is practically guaranteed. While Apple and Nintendo both clearly seem to think their partnership will last, because they also announced that Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem mobile games are currently in development.
