Succession: Season 5 – What You Should Know

Succession

Family-drama shows or soap operas are timeless classics, but sometimes, even timeless classics can be exhausting and repetitive. For those looking for something that shakes up the formula, Succession is a fantastic option. Instead of taking the familial disputes and rivalries too seriously, Succession flips it over its head and turns it into a comedy. Not completely though, as Succession does a fine balancing act of keeping the series hilarious while making time for more serious scenes when the need arises.

The series reached its climax in Season 4 when all three Roy siblings failed to take the CEO position. In a surprise twist, Tom Wambsgans, Shiv’s husband, takes the company, leaving the siblings still incredibly rich, but depressed nonetheless. Is it really over though? Here’s what you should know about Succession: Season 5 and its likelihood, or unlikelihood, of coming.

When Is Succession: Season 5 Being Released?

Unfortunately, the wait for Succession: Season 5 may never end. Its Season 4 finale was meant to end the series overall. Jesse Armstrong, the creator of Succession, gave a lengthy interview explaining that Succession: Season 4 is indeed the end.

Just to be clear, it was intentionally concluded by Armstrong and the other writers. It was not canceled. The show was doing well, and HBO was actually pretty open to more seasons. Unlike other shows that last this long, Succession increased in viewership the longer it went. Season 4 had a whopping average viewership of 705,000 viewers compared to the 603,000 viewers of Season 1.

Will The Cast Return For Succession: Season 5?

Seeing as Succession: Season 5 isn’t coming, that’s a no. Will you never be able to see the cast members of Succession ever again? That’s also a no. A lot of the cast members already have roles lined up in other shows and movies. Here are a few of them.

Brian Cox (Logan Roy) has upcoming roles in some pretty huge productions. He will be in the animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and even a new 007 series called 007’s Road to a Million.

Sarah Snook (Shiv Roy) will be in a movie called The Beanie Bubble and a show called Koala Man.

Kieran Culkin (Roman Roy) has roles lined up in multiple TV series, including Teenage Euthanasia, The Hospital, and a new Scott Pilgrim anime series.

Alan Ruck (Connor Roy) will also be in a couple of upcoming films, such as Crust, Wind River: Rising, and The Burial.

Matthew Macfadyen (Tom Wambsgans) already has roles in Deadpool 3 and Holland, Michigan.

What Could Succession: Season 5 Be About?

Even though the show is officially over, fans will always scheme up potential plots for what Succession: Season 5 could have been about. After all, Jesse Armstrong stated that he felt conflicted about ending the show. Never say die to a reboot or spin-off sometime in the future.

Despite Armstrong being clear that Season 4 was the end, he left the series surprisingly open-ended. Sure, the Roy siblings seemed to be out of the running for CEO, but are they really? Knowing how the show works, a couple of plot twists and coincidences could shake up Waystar Royco. With Tom in dire straits, the CEO position could open up once again.

Another option for a Succession: Season 5 would be to do a time skip. The story could move on to the next generation of Roys. As Tom ages, the fight for power could easily start anew.
