The Most Stunning Shots In The New Blade Runner 2049 Trailer

Blade Runner 2049

Despite being delayed until October, a new trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 has released. I, for one, absolutely cannot wait to see what the director of modern classics like Sicario and Arrival will do with this film – especially considering how bloody beautiful it’s looking.

Thankfully, that’s mostly what this new trailer does: give us a feel of what the movie will be like. Despite showing some well-known faces like Jared Leto and Robin Wright, little is known about the plot of 2049. Obviously this is great news; nobody needs to know what’s going on with a film, especially when it’s so far from release.

Anyway, I thought I’d highlight some of the prettiest shots found in the new trailer, because I can’t stop watching it:

Blade Runner 2049

No clue what’s going on with this building, but it seems to be a scene reminiscent of when Deckard first visited the Tyrell Corporation in the first movie. The moody shadows are a nice touch, and will be consistent in most of these pictures.

Blade Runner 2049

This seems to be a birthing pod or something which Leto’s character appears to have a role in controlling. The vacuum-packed human figure is just so eerie, but the aesthetically pleasing symmetry at least makes it nice to look at.

Blade Runner 2049

It just all looks so grungy, doesn’t it? Maybe not to quite the degree of the original film – which seemed to be layered in dirt and grime – but it’s definitely not a future free of grubbiness. My guess is that the woman figure is one of the film’s replicants, and plays a similar role to Rachel; this time with Ryan Gosling in the Harrison Ford role.

Blade Runner 2049

This looks like it could be a wasteland with remnants of a time long gone. Seems like Gosling’s character is searching for Ford’s Deckard, and has tracked him to some distant, isolated hideout. Does this mean that Deckard is (spoilers for Blade Runner) actually a replicant in this movie, and has been in hiding for 30 years? Only time will tell.

Blade Runner 2049

I just had to include this, because it’s so similar to how Deckard turned with his iconic gun when approaching his apartment in the original movie. He’s arguably a little under-dressed, but probably wasn’t expecting any visitors way out in the middle of nowhere.

Again, no idea what’s going on here, but it’s just bleeds atmosphere. Judging by the architecture, it seems like it’s related to wherever it is Leto’s character operates; though, that’s just pure speculation. Regardless, it’s a strikingly beautiful image amongst an absolute sea of them.

Blade Runner 2049

Eyes played such a significant role in the original film’s storyline, and the movie itself opened with a few quick flashes of an eyeball juxtaposed with the futuristic skyline. I think it’s a given that 2049 will continue this leitmotif, so it’s exciting to see the trailer come to a close with this close-up of somebody’s eye. Whose it is is anyone’s guess, and I’m sure internet-investigators will examine the fine details to try and work it out.
