Tungsten (or W) is an uncommon tier 1 resource that you’ll come across fairly frequently during your voyage across the galaxy in Starfield. You’ll need this resource to craft various recipes, such as weapon mods, spacesuit mods, research projects, and outpost structures.
The first method for obtaining Tungsten is to scan various planets and moons that house this resource. If you see W under the locations resource tab, then you’ve found a viable source. Here are a few locations you can access in the early game of Starfield.
- Bondar (Alpha Centauri System)
- Vos (Alpha Centauri System)
- Titan (Sol System)
- Pluto (Sol System)
- Procyon I (Procyon A system)
Once you land at any of these locations, you can use your hand scanner to spot the resource from afar. They will be scattered across the surface of any planet or moon that houses this resource, and given its uncommon rarity, they won’t be too difficult to find.
When you do find a Tungsten deposit, use your Cutter to mine it. The resource will then be automatically transported into your inventory hassle-free.
To farm the resource more effectively, you should set up an outpost near a Tungsten vein. However, to start extracting Tungsten from the vein, you will need the resource to build the Tungsten extractor. So, make sure you mine a few deposits before beginning your farming process.
If scavenging for the resource isn’t your thing, then there is another short-term solution to acquire it. Vendors from across the settled systems have Tungsten for sale, though their inventory does change from time to time, so keep your eyes peeled when you have the chance. A few vendors you can access early in your playthrough that sells Tungsten are:
- UC Exchange (Cydonia on Mars)
- Jemison Mercantile (New Atlantis Spaceport)
- Mining League (Neon)
- Midtown Minerals (Akila City)
