Lithium (or Li) is a rare tier 2 resource that you’ll encounter occasionally during your travels across the stars in Starfield. You’ll find a use for this resource in various crafting recipes that will no doubt benefit your gear upgrades or base-building capabilities.
So how do you get it? Despite Lithium being rare, you can obtain it in several different ways, depending on how much you need at the moment. You can sometimes find Lithium drops on corpses or in storage units, but these are random drops and are an unreliable method to gather this rare resource.
A better way to get Lithium is to find a planet or moon that houses Lithium on its surface. You can scan various locations in the galaxy map to see what resources the planets or moons have. If you spot Li in the resource tab, then you’re good to go. A few locations you can head to early in your playthrough are:
- Porrima II (Porrima System)
- Porrima III (Porrima System)
- Porrima V-a (Porrima System)
- Porrima VI (Porrima System)
- Tau Ceti III (Tau Ceti System)
- Tau Ceti VIII-c (Tau Ceti System)
Since this resource can be hard to find, it’s best to use your hand scanner to search for Lithium, then use your Cutter to mine the deposits you may find on the location’s surface.
If you require a substantial amount of Lithium, then it may be best to plant an outpost next to a Lithium vein. Placing the required extractor on top can passively generate this resource over time. Check back in regularly to stay rich with this resource.
Constructing storage units will help increase the yield and make your trips back and forth more worthwhile. You can always sell any excess to make some additional money in your bank. Who wouldn’t say no to a few extra credits?
Additionally, you can pick up Lithium from a few vendors for a short-term solution. Here are several vendors you can reach early in your playthrough:
- Jemison Mercantile (New Atlantis Spaceport)
- UC Distribution Center (New Atlantis Commercial District)
- Mining League (Neon)
- Midtown Minerals (Akila City)
Keep in mind that some shops won’t have Lithium in their inventory until you reach a certain level. Different shops are more forgiving than others, so feel free to look around if you struggle to find it. The UC Distribution Center, for example, had the resource at a lower level.
