Starfield is a game with many, many crafting systems and possibilities many different materials that are needed for each. It’s a big old universe for you to explore, so trying to find materials like Iron can often feel like finding a needle made out of Iron in a haystack.
Luckily, Iron isn’t actually too hard to find in Iron, as it can be found in most of the asteroid fields in the game. There are plenty of these across the galaxy, but we fairly reliably found them in the same system that Earth is in.
Once you find an asteroid field, start shooting at the asteroids with your ship’s weapons (a pretty inelegant way of mining but an effective one) and then you should start picking up the resources left behind, which will all be added to your ship’s storage.
There may be other ways of obtaining Iron in Starfield, such as on the surface of some planets, but we found this to be the most effect method.
What Is Iron Used for In Starfield?
Much like most materials in Starfield, Iron is used for crafting at workbenches, specifically weapon parts, and also things like Adaptive Frames that are required in base building. Iron is one of the most commonly used materials in the game, so be sure to mine any asteroid you come across.
Starfield is available on PC and Xbox.
