Exploring the galaxy, finding artifacts and surveying the various planets you encounter is dangerous work, so naturally in Starfield you’ll need all the weapons and ammo you can get your hands on. Knowing where to find ammo so you never run out in the middle of a fight is paramount when preparing to make an expedition, but some Starfield players have been wondering whether or not you can craft your own ammo as you make your way through the game. This is what you need to know about ammo crafting in Starfield.

Starfield Ammo Crafting Explained

The truth of the matter is that, at this moment in time, there is no weapon crafting in Starfield. While there are various crafting skills available, including the ability to upgrade your weapons and spacesuits, along with the option to craft food items, meds and chems or industrial items that can help with Research Projects, there’s no ability to craft your own ammo for weapons.

If you’re running low on ammo, you’ll need to either stop by one of the various vendors you can find in many of the game’s settlements, trade with other ships that in orbit around planets like Jemison, or loot the bodies of your enemies as you play. There’s also the second rank of the Scavenging skill, which gives you more ammo when searching containers, making that a valuable option if you’re constantly running low.

Will Bethesda Add Ammo Crafting In The Future?

While we can’t confirm anything for certain, the lack of ammo crafting does seem like a bit of an oversight on Bethesda’s part, especially when ammo crafting was part of the last two Fallout games. Fallout 76 allowed players to craft ammo from whatever materials they found lying around, while Fallout 4 added a Ammunition Plant option for your outpost as part of the Contraptions DLC, allowing you to create your own ammo from the comfort of your outpost.

It’ll be interesting to see if future updates to Starfield will also add features like ammo crafting, as it’s a quality of life feature the game desperately needs. Until then, you’ll just have to keep popping your head into Jemison Mercantile and other shops just like it if you want to find 12 gauge ammo and the like.
