Finally, some good content. Publisher THQ Nordic has today announced that SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, a remake of the cult classic, will launch on June 23rd for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

Here’s the release date trailer featuring those updated visuals.

The synopsis for the game:

Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to save Bikini Bottom from lots of rampant robots with your mighty bubbles? Of course you do! Want to underpants bungee jump? Why wouldn’t you! Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!

The game will be available physically and digitally. Digital pre-orders are open now for PC and Xbox One with Switch opening on April 21st. No news on PS4 pre-orders.

Along with the standard edition, players can also sink a handsome $149.99/€149.99/£139.99 for the Shiny Edition, which includes the following:

– An 8″/20cm SpongeBob Figurine with Golden Spatula and flexible tongue
– Wallstickers
– 6 Lithographs
– SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks
– The Game itself

If that wasn’t enough sponge for you, how about the princely sum of $299.99/€299.99/£259.99, which is as much as a console?

– An 8″/20cm SpongeBob Figurine with Golden Spatula and flexible tongue
– A 7″/18cm Figurine of Patrick
– The Sandy 8″/20cm Figurine
– Wallstickers
– A set of Tiki Keyrings
– 6 Lithographs
– SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks
– The Game itself

As someone who never played the original, I’m still intrigued by the game’s release this June. Is it because it will probably be the only big-ish game releasing through the whole month that probably won’t get delayed? Maybe. The big question is whether or not it will match Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII as the best remake of the year.
