With the first game being a bit hit, it comes as no surprise that Splatoon 2 has also proved to be a strong seller. Gematsu reported that 54,443 copies of the game were sold in Japan during the week of August 21 – 27, bringing the total number of units of the game sold in the country to 1,004,180, which is pretty damn impressive. Selling over one million copies in Japan is certainly an achievement to be proud of, and that’s not even counting the international sales.

This comes after Nintendo’s first-party fighting game ARMS debuted at number one on the Japanese sales charts, and went on to sell over one-million copies worldwide. So while Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Pokémon will always be huge sellers, it’s clear that Nintendo’s newer IPs will continue to rake in the cash. It probably won’t be long now before we hear of the announcement of Splatoon 3.

In any case, if you’ve yet to experience the joys of showing your opponents with bucketloads of ink, you can purchase Splatoon 2 from the Nintendo eShop.
