Spec Ops: The Line And The Darkness 2 Coming To Backwards Compatibility

Forget all that news from before about Microsoft possibly purchasing EA, this is much bigger news. The backwards compatibility library for the Xbox One is constantly expanding, and today sees the inclusion of two big shooters. Check out the tweet from Major Nelson below:

The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom is an indie puzzle platformer that seems to possess a unique identity, and is probably a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it’s overshadowed by the likes of The Darkness II and Spec Ops: The Line.

The Darkness II was the return of Jackie Estacado, who was still possessed by the evil Darkness, still involved with the Mob, and still murdering fools left and right. Trading in the first game’s realistic visuals for a cel-shaded style more in-keeping with the comic book origins of The Darkness, the sequel was a enjoyable demonic romp, and the perfect antithesis to Spec Ops.

If you’re looking for an example of how impactful and thought provoking a narrative in gaming can be, look no further than Spec Ops: The Line. What starts as a standard military shooter as your squad of three conducts a search and rescue op quickly descends into a harrowing tale designed to make you feel uncomfortable. Spec Ops: The Line isn’t enjoyable, but it is unforgettable. You owe it to yourself to play this game if you haven’t already.

What do you think of today’s announcement? Will you be playing either of these games? Be sure to leave a comment below, and check out the biggest upcoming games coming out in February.
