As part of Sony’s end of year financial results, it was revealed that the company have managed to shift 110.4 million PS4 units since the console launched back at the end of 2013. God, 2013 seems like a long time ago these days. Take me back.
It was also revealed that there are currently 41 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, and that Sony’s game division proved to be a big earner for the company at large. As far at the gaming division goes, 51% of its sales have come from digital sales of games and add-ons, while only 6% came from physical game sales. The hardware accounted for 19% of sales, and the combination of PS Plus and PS Now made up 17%, while peripherals were responsible for 7%.
It’s an impressive set of figures for one of the most successful consoles ever made, though Sony have admitted that sales of the PS4 hardware are winding down, as the release of the PS5 at the end of the year is looming on the horizon.
