Sony have recently begun beta testing for the latest PS4 firmware update, with users who have signed up to hear about beta tests receiving a notification regarding firmware update 7.50. The update was first spotted by MP1st, as Japanese users shared the email they received on Twitter, but users in areas around the world.

The email has also been shared over on the ResetEra forums, where they reveal that the update doesn’t contain any “major new features”. However, the update will include a variety of “quality-of-life and performance fixes”, those no specific details were shared regarding that.

It’s unusual to see Sony rolling out beta tests for a firmware update that doesn’t add or change much, but if the update really is big enough, we’ll see a PlayStation Blog post about it at some point soon. In the meantime, users have reported a couple of changes to the PS4’s sorting options UI, and that the HDCP is now at 2.3, instead of 2.2.
