Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Sequel in Development

From being criticised by the internet, making a comeback, and now getting a sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog is truly the Cinderella story of 2020.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a genuinely delightful and fun adventure for all ages.

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy have confirmed that they have started on the development for the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog.

The original filmmaking team have been retained for the sequel, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script. This is no surprise given the reception the first movie received, both critically and in the box office.

Upon its release, Sonic the Hedgehog scored the number one spot by having the biggest opening weekend of all time for a movie based on a video game. It has 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a fresh rating, with a whopping audience score of 93%.

Based on the popular video game franchise from Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog was released in February of this year. It tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz). Sonic and his new best friend Tom (played by James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) as he plots world domination.

The movie is still in the developmental stage, so no decisions have been made regarding casting or a production start date, though it seems likely that Schwartz and Marsden will be back for the sequel.
