Slitterhead – Everything You Need To Know

Slitterhead
Slitterhead

Slitterhead is a brand new and exciting upcoming horror game that was first announced during The Game Awards 2021. The head of this fear-inducing project is none other than Silent Hill’s very own creator, Keiichiro Toyama. An epic combination of surreal and terrifying, the game’s trailer has hyped up Silent Hill fans and horror fans alike.

This survival horror game is the first from a new development studio. It features disgusting monsters, an ominous atmosphere, and tons of gut-wrenching gore. With anticipation building, many gamers are dying to know when Slitterhead’s release date is, and what we can expect from it.

When Is Slitterhead Coming Out?

Unfortunately, there’s no set release date for Slitterhead as of right now. Keiichiro Toyama confirmed that production on the game would last until the end of 2022 at least when speaking in an interview with IGN after the game’s announcement at The Game Awards 2021.

Toyama also made sure to let fans know that they would be kept aware of any updates and progress with the game’s development. In theory, the game could be released later on in 2023, as Toyama had mentioned in an interview with IGN Japan that took place before Slitterhead’s announcement. It’s possible, though, that we’ll see the game released in 2024, as there’s still no release date info on the studio’s website.

What Is Slitterhead About?

What the Slitterhead trailer may lack in hints at the gameplay and story, it makes up for with incredibly intense action that really hypes up the fear factor and anticipation for the new horror game. The setting looks to be a fictional Asian cityscape based on Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s.

Toyama mentioned that a large part of the game would be trying to determine which characters are secretly homicidal monsters and which aren’t, with players’ decisions directly affecting the gameplay and storyline. While at its core, Slitterhead is a survival horror game, Toyama says that he aims for gameplay to be action-oriented and adventure-based.

Slitterhead will most likely be played from a third-person perspective. The game’s creator also promises brand new game mechanics that gamers haven’t yet seen in any other game, which sounds very intriguing.

What Platforms Is Slitterhead On?

As with the release date, there’s no definitive information on which platforms Slitterhead will be released to. In Toyama’s IGN interview that took place before the game’s reveal, he specifically mentioned that the game would be PC focused. However, in the same interview, Toyama went on to say that he hopes to bring the game to “as many console platforms as possible”.

That means it’s pretty safe to say that Slitterhead will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X & S at the very least, along with PC storefronts, although there’s no Steam page for Slitterhead just yet.

Who Is Developing Slitterhead?

Slitterhead is being developed by a new studio called Bokeh Game Studio, which was founded in 2020 by veteran game developer Keiichiro Toyama. The survival horror game will be the studio’s first project.

Keiichiro Toyama notably created Silent Hill back in the late 1990s, which quickly went on to be a cult classic game. He’s also responsible for creating the Forbidden Siren series, which saw the last installment of the franchise be released in 2008.

Over the last several years, Toyama has spent much of his time working on Gravity Rush, which is a Sony exclusive action adventure series. Team Silent’s composer Akira Yamaoka will be taking lead on the game’s score, leaving Slitterhead in several very capable hands.
