Another week, another supreme slice of guitar rock to fawn over. Single of the Week this time round goes to ‘Warning‘ from the impressive Cymbals Eat Guitars.
The Staten Island band have slowly but surely been building a fanbase and are likely to add a couple new converts with this confident release that is a step forward from the sometimes unapproachable noise rock of their early days. Detailed riffs intersperse brilliant with one another as the crunching drums keep things ticking along nicely. Smart simplicity is the keyword here.
Focused instrumentation allows the vocals to come to the fore and with a David Bowie reference thrown into the mix. If you’re looking for signs of a band maturing and evolving over time, they don’t come quite as tell-tale than this.
If you’re already a Cymbals fan, you might have to start getting used to their new sound – they will reportedly no longer be playing anything off of 2011’s ‘Lenses Alien’.
You get the familiar of a more matured, less rough around the edges Cymbals during ‘Warning‘ and it looks like the shape of things to come ahead of the release of their new album ‘LOSE‘ on August 26th. I can’t wait.
