How to Sign Up For the Ghost Recon: Wildlands Beta

Strap on your high tech goggles and get your trigger fingers ready because the Ghost Recon: Wildlands private beta sign up has begun. Ubisoft have started taking names for a chance to get into the Wildlands closed beta, which currently doesn’t have an official date, but with the game set for launch in March 2017, it can’t be far off.

It seems to be a first come first served situation, but it may also be chosen from other statistics, so you may as well put your name down and hope for the best. Don’t worry if you don’t make the cut for the closed beta as Ubisoft has confirmed that they are holding an open beta closer to release.

For those who haven’t been following the latest Ghost Recon, I will give the quick run down so you can properly prepare yourself.

Set in the modern day, Wildlands delivers the first open world gameplay to the series that has been crafted from the ground up to be a strategic squad based action game. You will attempt to rid the lands of Bolivia from the cartel ridden outposts to heavily fortified drug lord’s base of operations. Featuring a four man squad that offers drop in, drop out co-op gameplay, you will always have three soldiers to back you up on your missions.

However, it’s not as simple as a point your gun here and shoot experience because things can get tricky. If you kill a certain cartel member instead of letting him go for information, it can make the next in line a little more unstable and thus harder to coordinate an assault on. Before assaulting a base, you need to map out where each player will attack from and the time of day you will choose to execute your plan will also affect the outcome. Do you sneak in during the night and silently take down guards without firing a single shot? Or would you prefer to parachute in from an attack helicopter in the middle of the day because you’ve seen too many action films? You could even give the craziest guy on your team a dirt bike to cause chaos by riding through the middle of the base while your teammates snipe out the confused guards.

Everything you do will directly affect the world you are living in and, for the first time in a Ghost Recon game, you will have the option to complete side missions in between each major story objective. In your travels of the open world environment you can gain allies with local politicians or even gang members depending on your actions. The best way I could describe the way this game has shaped up is that Ghost Recon ran into Grand Theft Auto at the bar one night and had a few too many drinks. GTA then made sweet love to the almost forgotten franchise and we are now seeing the result of their beautiful love baby. A bit of a dramatic summarisation, but I was lucky enough to play the game at a gaming expo and it quickly climbed my most anticipated list of games.

Fingers crossed for all those who put their names forward for the closed beta and for those that managed to get in, remember to let everyone know what you think. For everyone else, hang tight because 2017 is so close and the promise for amazing games will be set to deliver early on.
