In his quest to be known as more than just a perennially stoned, chuckling bear, Seth Rogen has been hard at work at trying to get the absolutely batshit comic book Preacher onto our television screens. It looks like he has succeeded as AMC have officially greenlit it in a pretty bold move.

Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg have been working hard to bring the cult comic to television with the former tweeting out his exciting once it had been confirmed.

According to Variety: Rogen and Goldberg wrote the adaptation for Neal Moritz’s Original Film. That trio is exec producing through their Point Grey banner, along with showrunner Sam Catlin.

The Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was a hot property when it was shopped to cable buyers earlier this year. There had been talk of a straight-to-series order but at present it is a pilot.

“’Preacher’ has been our favorite comic since it first came out,” said Rogen and Goldberg, who are also attached to direct. “Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it’s an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won’t make too many dick jokes and ruin it.”

If you’re looking for a network that will take risks, AMC is probably a safe bet. Not only did they champion Breaking Bad when it was struggling in its first season, but they also took on the unenviable task of coughing up enough money for six years to depict the zombie apocalypse with The Walking Dead.

However, when you have a character with an arse for a face, Preacher might not make quite as smooth a transition to screen. The case could be made that it’s almost too insane for television, but when your main character is a fallen preacher who gains the ability to make people do whatever he wants, it’s going to be nothing if not entertaining.

All being well, Preacher will premiere sometime in 2016.
