About damn time.

Two years ago, Samoa Joe made his WWE main roster debut allying himself with Triple H and ambushing Seth Rollins. Since then, he has had memorable feuds with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins himself and AJ Styles. However, Joe had never clinched a title on the main roster — until last night.

On last night’s edition of SmackDown Live, Joe defeated Rey Mysterio, Andrade Almas and the US Champion R-Truth to claim the United States Championship. The end came when Mysterio hit Almas with a frog splash from the top rope to pin Andrade Almas only for Joe to hit a running senton to break the pin and then hit Almas with a brutal uranage for the win.

The Samoan Submission Machine had a sensational run in NXT where he is one two people to be a two-time NXT champion (the other being Shinsuke Nakamura). He is also one half of the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic winners alongside Finn Balor. With such a successful career in NXT, it comes as a surprise that it has taken two years for Joe to win his first championship since NXT.

Hopefully this will lead to a major push for Joe. The number of possible dream matches he could have are countless and one can hope that it will lead to him getting a WWE Championship reign in the near future.
