Sammy Guevara has once again captured the AEW TNT Championship at Battle of the Belts, defeating Scorpio Sky in the show’s opening contest. ‘The Spanish God’ is now a three-time TNT Champion, having beaten Cody Rhodes in battles past to forge his championship legacy.
The most interesting take away from the result is the fact that Guevara picked up the win via dirty tactics, sowing the seeds for a heel turn for him and Tay Conti in the next few weeks. The former Inner Circle crew member nailed Scorpio with a low blow, bringing his reign to an end. During the match, members of Dan Lambert’s squad interfered to help Sky get the upper hand, but were thwarted by Tay Conti.
Later in the night, Thunder Rosa successfully defended the AEW Women’s Championship against Nyla Rose and ROH Champion, Johnathan Gresham, made his AEW debut by defeating Dalton Castle in the show’s main event to retain his title. Following the match, Samoa Joe made an appearance to side with Gresham against Jay Lethal and his newfound ally.
