Saints Row: How To Perform A Barrel Roll

Say the line, Peppy.

Saints Row

As an open world game, it’s no surprise that one of the core aspects of Saints Row is the ability to drive around Santo Ileso at your leisure. Stealing cars and driving fast is all in a day’s work for the leader of the Saints, but there’s also a variety of stunts you can perform while driving cars or riding bikes while playing Saints Row.

One such stunt, the barrel roll, is a bit more elusive than most to execute, considering that the game barely tells you how to do it. Unless you get lucky with a loading screen tip, you’d probably have no idea, but luckily we’re here to help you. Here’s how you perform a barrel roll in Saints Row.

Early on in the game, you’ll unlock the ability to control your vehicles in mid-air, which will allow you to do frontflips, backflips and 360 flat spins just by moving the left analogue stick. You’ll need to perform these stunts in order to complete certain challenges within the game, including specific vehicle challenges which, in turn, unlock a vehicle’s signature ability. However, the barrel roll is slightly more complicated.

While on the ground, holding the A/X button and pushing the left analogue stick to the left or right will let your vehicle enter into a drift, allowing you to slide around corners and earn some quick XP. If you hold this button while your vehicle is in the air, it turns into a stunt modifier of sorts, meaning if you hold the button and push left or right on the left analogue stick, you’ll perform a barrel roll instead of a 360 flat spin.

Successfully performing a barrel roll will unlock the achievement/trophy called “The Spins”. Depending on the type of car you’re driving, you’ll also need to perform three barrel rolls in order to unlock the vehicle’s signature ability, which can be activated at either the Garage in the Saints HQ, or at JimRob’s Garage, which is located to the south of The Church/Saints HQ.

Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S.
