Rumours Suggest New Resident Evil Game To Launch Next Year

And it's going to be a huge departure.

Resident Evil 3 3

Resident Evil 3 isn’t even available to the general public just yet, but today we’ve seen rumours circulate that Capcom are gearing up to announce another Resident Evil game, which if the rumours are to be believed, could launch next year.

The rumours come from the Twitter user Dusk Golem (which were spotted by VG 24/7), who stated that the next Resident Evil game has been in development since late 2016, and it’ll be “by far the biggest departure the series has ever taken”. Dusk Golem reckons the game will be announced soon, and that he expects the reveal won’t go down well, as “a lot of people will be pissed off about it when it gets revealed”, but he doesn’t go as far as to say it’ll be Resident Evil 8. He just refers to it as the “2021 RE game”. It’s likely to be RE 8, but we’ll have to wait and see on that front.

The Resident Evil series, not including spin-offs, has already received a couple of huge departures already. RE4’s saw a move to an over-the-shoulder camera and focused on action over horror, while RE7 opted for a first person perspective, blending action and genuine horror. It’ll be interesting to see what “the biggest departure” looks like for a series that’s reinvented itself a few times over already, so be sure to leave your best theories in the comments below.
