Rogue One: Darth Vader Briefly Appears in New Trailer

Darth Vader

The Rogue One trailer that Star Wars fans were treated to at Star Wars Celebration has now been released for everyone, premiering during NBC’s coverage of Rio 2016. And it has Darth Vader in it for roughly 0.65 seconds. Get…hyped?

We see a lot more of the dangerous world Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso plays a part of, but the trailer inevitably just ends up asking more questions that it does answering the ones already posed by teasers. The most interesting we saw is that Donnie Yen’s character appears to be a Force user without a lightsaber: potentially a disgraced ex-Jedi?

The plot for Rogue One acts as a precursor to the events of A New Hope and will shadow the doomed crew responsible for stealing the plans for the Death Star before the construction is fully complete. Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Ben Mendelsohn will co-star with Felicity Jones. Probably the most exciting casting decision of them all? James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Darth Vader.

Rogue One will be the first anthology Star Wars film and the first standalone film in the franchise – a solo Han Solo will get his own movie to be released in 2018. Gareth Edwards is in the Rogue One director’s chair and, all being well, it will be released on December 16th.
