Alden Ehrenreich is Your New Young Han Solo

After plenty of rumours and speculation saying that he would be, it is now official that Alden Ehrenreich will play a young Han Solo in a spin-off film from the Star Wars universe. The news was announced at Star Wars Celebration, where apparently a lot of stuff is getting announced, like Chewbacca finally coming to Battlefront.

According to a transcript from Deadline, Ehrenreich wasn’t holding out too much hope on getting the role of a lifetime:

“When it first came along I knew everybody would be going out for it. I read the sides and loved them and thought, ‘Who knows, but let me give it a shot.'”

The same story divulges that finding the right Solo took six months, which is what fans will want to hear to know that they didn’t just recast such an iconic role on a whim. That would have been hard as there were 3,000 people auditioning for the chance to play a young Han Solo, it was also revealed.

Chris Lord and Phil Miller of The Lego Movie fame will be directing with the former explaining to the audience why he was excited to take on the job (and wouldn’t you be?):

“I relate to Han Solo. He doesn’t want to do anything he’s told, when you tell him not to do something he wants to do it more. He’s very sarcastic and at the end of the day he’s reasonably optimistic.

“That’s why we got so excited about making this movie: the dichotomy between this grouchy guy with the biggest heart in the galaxy.”

The Han Solo spin-off movie will start filming early next year with a release date of May 25, 2018 tentatively pencilled in.
