Robert Downey Jr. Speaks to Animals in New Dolittle Trailer

First movie post Endgame isn't looking too great.

Universal Pictures just released the trailer for Dolittle, with Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role, and yes, he is playing the character who speaks to animals. This character was previously taken on by Eddie Murphy, in the 1998 movie Dr. Dolittle, which did not fare well with the critics, with a score of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is surprising then that the movie received a sequel, but then again, that’s Hollywood for you.

Both versions (there is also a 1967 film) are adaptations of the book series by Hugh Lofting, and it seems that Robert Downey Jr’s version is a more faithful adaptation, since the first book in the series entails the doctor heading to Africa to cure a monkey epidemic.

In the trailer, we see Dolittle embarking on a perilous voyage, comforting a gorilla, and later on, having to face off with a tiger. The movie acts as a Marvel reunion of sorts, since Tom Holland is a part of the cast as well, though his presence is mainly through voice-over. There is quite the star-studded cast attached to this movie, with the likes of Michael Sheen, Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez and John Cena. With the exception of Sheen, most of the actors are doing voice-over roles.

Dolittle comes rampaging into the cinemas January 17, 2020.
