Rich Swann Arrested For Battery And False Imprisonment

Rich Swann was arrested on Saturday night for the alleged false imprisonment and battering of his wife, the indie wrestler Su Yung.

The 205 Live star was picked up by police in Gainesville, Florida, after an argument between the couple is said to have escalated.

In a statement from the Gainesville Police Department, Swann and Yung, real name Vannarah Riggs, had been driving home from an event Riggs had wrestled in that night.

“[Swann] was critiquing [his wife’s] performance and began getting angry with her,” the statement reads. She “got scared that the argument was going to escalate and got out of the car.”

According to the police, Swann allegedly stopped his vehicle in traffic. He proceeded to pursue Riggs and yelled for her “to get back in the car”.

As Swann caught up to Riggs, he allegedly applied force to her arms and neck in an attempt to grab her. Swann is then said to have placed Riggs in a headlock and dragged her back to the car as she screamed for help from passing motorists.

Adding to the maelstrom, the car had been left in gear and had since rolled into a telephone pole at the roadside.

Swann was booked for simple battery, a misdemeanour, and a felony charge of false imprisonment. WWE responded by immediately suspending Swann indefinitely.

“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest,” WWE said in a statement.

Swann joined WWE in October 2015, joining the NXT roster after Mark Henry convinced the company to give him a tryout. After a memorable turn in the acclaimed Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, he went on to become a staple of 205 Live and picked up his first and only Cruiserweight Championship reign that November.
