Resident Evil 4 Remake: How To Enable HDR

Resident Evil 4 Remake is the best looking Resident Evil game to date and just one of the most visually impressive games of the generation so far. Why not make the vibrant colors (or lack thereof in the castle sections) pop even more by enabling HDR?

To enable HDR in Resident Evil 4 Remake, simply go to Options > Display and then toggle HDR Mode to On. With any luck, HDR will now be enabled. However, if you can’t switch it on, there may be a few things for you to do first.

The first thing you should check is that your display, whether that’s a TV or monitor, is actually HDR compliant and not just ready. The difference is that HDR ready devices can recognise a HDR signal but not actually do anything with it. They’re on the market less and less these days, but you may have fallen into this trap without realising.

If your display is definitely capable of displaying HDR imagery, you probably have an issue on a system level instead.

On PC, you may have to turn HDR on in your settings first. Simply go to Settings > System > Display > HDR and then toggle Use HDR to on. If there’s no option for HDR, it likely means that your monitor isn’t able to display HDR images. Bear in mind that HDR seems to mess up a lot of captures when it comes to PC.

Consoles also all have different options for HDR. For PS4, go to Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings and fiddle with the settings there. On PS5, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR and select always on. For Xbox, go to Profile & system > Settings > General > TV & display options > Video modes and choose the HDR option in there.

Hopefully, all being well, you will be able to enjoy the idyllic Spanish countryside with glorious HDR.

Resident Evil 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X & S.
