Turn the big boss into big slop even quicker.

Resident Evil 3 is a speedrunner’s dream, it offering loads of different ways of recording quick times, methods that the speedrunning community is still figuring out. If you’re trying to dust off the final Nemesis boss fight as quickly as possible, this easy video should help.

Zombieguts13* uploaded a video (on Nightmare difficulty, no less) showing how he skips an entire phase of the final boss, which usually takes three phases but becomes two with the method below. He doesn’t even use any special items from the shop, either.

In it, Zombieguts13 makes full use of Jill’s perfect dodge mechanic to roll out of the way of Nemesis’ tendrils, giving her slow motion and the chance to easily while away at his pustules. It will take a few attempts before you get the rhythm of Nemesis’ attacks, but they are so projected before they land that they’re easy to avoid regardless of whether or not you utilise the dodge.

After downing Nemesis by shooting away his pustules, you should then make your way over towards the right side of the room and then push in the first power source canister you see. As soon as that’s done, you should then dash forwards twice in quick succession, which allows you to push in the power source canister on the far end before Nemesis recovers.

Once that’s done, down Nemesis again and then push in the third and final canister on the left side of the room, allowing Jill to use the railgun and get rid of her stalker for good while shaving some valuable time off her run records. I’m not sure how much time this saves, but every little helps even if it’s only thirty or so seconds.

While we’re here, what are the general thoughts of the changes made to Nemesis in the remake? Personally, I didn’t like them at all. It felt like he ditched the trenchcoat far too quickly, his more animalistic form not offering anywhere near as many scares. Still, it makes sense if Capcom wanted to separate him even further from Resident Evil 2’s Mr. X.

Resident Evil 3 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We gave it an 8/10 score in our review:

“Resident Evil 3 is a mostly superb remake of a horror classic with many clever spins on the formula and fluid, enthralling gameplay. I just wish there was more of it.”
