Renee Young To Join WWE Raw Announce Team Full-Time

In a follow-up to word that backstage officials have reportedly been pleased with her commentary performances, it was announced today that Renee Young will now be at the Raw announce desk full-time. According to WWE’s corporate website, she will be replacing Jonathan Coachman (who will now be working pay-per-view kick-off shows), making Renee the first ever woman to be a part of Monday Night Raw’s broadcast booth on a full-time basis.

Renee has shone on her last few guest spots on Raw, providing an impassioned voice of reason that isn’t as aggressive as Corey Graves, or as worn down as Michael Cole.

Young’s previous experience as a sports broadcaster for The Score – where she worked with Mauro Ranallo – adds an element of legitimacy to her presence at the table. This matches what WWE was perhaps trying to replicate with Jonathan Coachman’s ESPN tenure when he came back to the fold, but his sub-par performances haven’t exactly lit the world on fire.

With the first ever all-women’s PPV on the horizon in Evolution, having a woman providing commentary full-time on WWE’s flagship show is a welcome addition to WWE programming. If she manages to consistently perform to the level she has been recently, then she could be a real force to be reckoned with on the broadcasting side of things.
