Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Offer “Incredible Emotional Depth”

Like a parlour hooker of the Old West, Red Dead Redemption 2 lifted up its skirt before putting away the goods. It was quickly and surprisingly announced, showcasing a scant amount of details in a teaser trailer before slinking away back to Fort Hype.

Not much has been heard since then, but at a recent MKM Partners event, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick (who sounds like he should be John Marston’s nemesis on name alone) opened up about what to expect. There’s no revelations here, but plenty for people to pick apart.

Speaking on the reception to the series and continuing its legacy:

“The conventional wisdom was of course that a western wouldn’t work. We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public. When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that’s not meant to be cute.”

Zelnick also claimed that the game would offer “incredible emotional depth” and that you should expect “there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements”. And that’s your lot.

He’s clearly doing the PR thing of saying loads while also saying nothing, so until we see a new trailer, screenshots, or details about the actual gameplay, guard your optimism.

Who am I kidding; it’s going to be incredible. Fall 2017 can’t come soon enough.
