Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Codes & Requirements

When the day comes that Rockstar stop putting cheat codes in their video games, that will be the day that cheats finally die out. They’re more or less the only publisher still including them in their games, which should make it no surprise that there are plenty of Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats to dive into.

They range from the goofy — constantly making Arthur drunk — to the downright time-saving — revealing the entire map without needing you to actually explore it. There’s nothing quite as silly as big head mode or exploding unicorns, but they’re nice little additions that will warm the heart of basically anyone who remembers writing long codes on a piece of paper.

To make use of these cheats, you need to go to Settings and then press triangle (PS4) or Y (Xbox One). From there, simply write in the box that comes up, making sure that there are no spaces at the end of your phrase — the PS4 is a pain for this.

However, there a couple of important caveats when it comes to the cheats found in Red Dead Redemption 2. The first is that they will disable progression and also trophies, meaning that you will have to make a save file beforehand if you want to try them out. They’re honestly also best left for after you complete the game so as to not break the immersion with a magically appearing horse.

In addition, players will have to have purchased certain newspapers from vendors dotted around the map before they are able to use them — some Red Dead Redemption 2 cheat codes won’t even work until after you’ve beaten the story. You will also need to inspect the newspapers and not simply buy them; the codes are actually hidden within the text of some of them. Those that don’t need special requirements are actually dotted around the world, which we’re trying to find more of so watch this space.

Here, then, are all the codes you need for Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as the criteria you need to make use of them. Fair warning: the below does not contain spoilers as such, but it does reveal the formation of the game’s many chapters. Organised from those that don’t need you to meet any special conditions to those that do, here’s the full list of Red Dead Redemption 2 cheat codes.
